Biography

1916 born as Inoue Yûichi on February 14th in Asakusa, Tôkyô
1935-76 works as primary school teacher
1942 begins an eight year calligraphy training with Ueda Sôkyû
1951 first exhibition of own calligraphic works in Tôkyô
1952 founds with artist friends the group "Bokujin-kai" (Ink People Society) and serves as chief editor of its monthly magazine “Bokujin” (until its 50th issue).
1957 shows the work “Gutetsu” at the São Paulo Art Biennial. Attracts the attention of English art critic Herbert Read.
1959

submits work for documenta 2 in Kassel. The work "Gutetsu" is published in Herbert Read’s A Concise History of Modern Painting.

1985 died on June 15th
